Shina…get in the glowing green square…
This trailer was at the start of all my Magic Knight Rayearth tapes. To my great disapointment I could never track it down…until one day I realized I was connected to a world wide web where some clever person would have undoubtedly preserved it…
Edit: Sorry, video doesn’t appear in the RSS feed.
Sometimes you know a book was written just for you
And The Pirates! is a whole series of such books for me.
I’m not sure why the US release decided to go with the generic subtitle “Band of Misfits” instead of the more promising “In an Adventure With Scientists”, but that’s a small thing. So since you may not be aware, this is a story about some quite lovely pirates AND Charles Darwin.
-> Another trailer, this one with a catchy song.

Fetish of the Day
I’m probably the only one, but a hot women suddenly speaking with David Warner’s voice…hrrrn.
But this raises an unanswerable question: Who is hotter as Ra’s al Ghul? David Warner or Liam Neeson?
“Human beings have always been the same – some clever, some stupid – there’s always a Blackadder and there’s always a Baldrick.”
A Blackadder fanvid! Something the internet has been sorely missing. By thedothatgirl.
Edit to add: Does anyone else watch the news for signs of this generation’s Blackadder?

I Remember Conventions by the Songs I Hear During Them
The first AMV I ever saw was at Anime Boston 2003. If memory serves, it was a Dragonball Z video set to In the End. Things have improved since then.
I thought this one in particular deserved a shout out. It doesn’t tell a specific story, yet I find it oddly moving.
More Goodbyes
Death of Nicholas Courtney
“Having written his memoirs – leaving out the classified information – he’s probably tending his garden and waiting for the call to arms from the Doctor. Which may never come.” -Nicholas Courtney, 1929-2001
In my mind the Brigadier will eternally be waiting and ready for the Doctor; Nicholas Courtney, however, we will miss very much.
Quick Heads Up: Streaming TV and Movies for Amazon Prime Members
Amazon is now including free access to all their streaming videos for Prime members. The catalog is somewhat limited, but includes Batman Beyond and some classic Doctor Who. Not worth the subscription alone, but if you are already using Amazon Prime to stock your house with heart-shaped bento egg molds and peanut butter, it’s a nice bonus.
Remember, you can get a year of Prime for free with a .edu email, 3 or more months free if you are a caregiver of a child, and that Amazon has periodic free trials for everyone. You can also share a Prime account among a household.
Update: Turns out you need a paid Prime account, not a free trial, to take advantage of streaming video. Booo.
